Hazleton begins her book by describing Muhammad's early life in Mecca. Muhammad was born in 570 CE to a poor family. His father died when he was six years old, and his mother died when he was eight. Muhammad was then raised by his uncle, Abu Talib. Abu Talib was a successful merchant, and Muhammad learned the trade from him. However, Muhammad was also a deeply religious man, and he often spent time in meditation and prayer.
In 610 CE, Muhammad had a religious experience that changed his life. While meditating in a cave outside of Mecca, Muhammad received a revelation from the angel Gabriel. Gabriel told Muhammad that he was a prophet of God, and that he should preach the message of Islam.
Muhammad began to preach his message in Mecca, but he was met with resistance from the city's leaders. The leaders of Mecca were afraid that Muhammad's message would undermine their authority, and they persecuted Muhammad and his followers.
In 622 CE, Muhammad and his followers were forced to flee Mecca. They traveled to the city of Medina, where they were welcomed by the local people. Muhammad established a community in Medina, and he began to build a following. Muhammad's message of Islam spread quickly throughout the Arabian Peninsula, and within a few years, he had united the tribes of Arabia under the banner of Islam.
Muhammad died in 632 CE, but his legacy continues to live on. Islam is now one of the world's largest religions, with over 1.8 billion followers. Muhammad's teachings have had a profound impact on the world, and he is considered to be one of the most influential figures in history.
Hazleton's book provides a comprehensive and engaging overview of Muhammad's life and legacy. The book is well-written and accessible, and it is a valuable resource for anyone who is interested in learning more about Islam.
